HANDS: A Multi-Center Clinical Trial to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Intermittent Hypoxia Therapy in Individuals with Spinal Cord Injury
This study investigates the effectiveness of daily acute intermittent hypoxia therapy (dAIH), coupled with a massed practice intervention or the use of high repetition training with the Rapael Glove, to improve upper-extremity function in individuals with chronic incomplete cervical SCI.
Research Project
Characterization of serum biomarkers in individuals with SCI receiving Acute Intermittent Hypoxia
We seek to quantify the serum inflammatory markers in individuals with SCI, and correlate inflammation with responsiveness to AIH therapy.
Research Project
COMPLETE: Implementing a Robotic Hip Assist-based Mobility Intervention for Older Adults with Frailty
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of using a Samsung robotic hip assist-based mobility intervention for older adults with frailty. The study outcomes include changes to gait function, with secondary measures of health, quality of life and community mobility.
Research Project
Personalized Mobility Interventions using Smart Sensor Resources for Lower-Limb Prothesis Users
The rehabilitation goal for individuals with amputations is to enable reintegration into society, employment, independent living, economic and social self-sufficiency—and for Service Members, a return to active duty and redeployment, where possible.
Research Project
COMPLETE: Locomotor function following transcutaneous electrical spinal cord stimulation in individuals with hemiplegic stroke
This study aims to determine whether transcutaneous spinal cord stimulation combined with ambulation training improves: 1. Locomotion function 2. Gait symmetry and efficiency 3. Standing posture and balance in individuals with hemiplegic stroke.
Research Project
COMPLETE: Genetic Variation, Stress, and Functional Outcomes after Stroke Rehabilitation
This study aims to identify genetic factors/susceptibilities associated with the course of treatment induced behavioral outcomes, motor arm recovery, quantify stress and activities of daily living during the recovery phase after stroke.
Research Project

Our RRTC Knowledge Translation (KT) projects cover many topics with the goal of increasing support for employment for individuals in vocational rehabilitation.
Research Project
The effect of botox on the hyperexcitability of the stretch reflex in spasticity
The objective of this study is to measure the electrical activity of single muscle fibers and to determine how this electrical activity changes after botulinum toxin injections.
Research Project
Early Detection and Therapeutic Intervention to Promote Motor Development in Infants
The intervention phase of Project Corbett is a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy of a one-year long, evidence- and clinical experience-based intervention to improve motor function and reduce the severity of motor delays in infants who have been admitted to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
